Vol.31, No. 3, 1985 sorption spectrometry (AA) gave the following results: for serum, RA-1000 = 1.09 + 0.918 AA (S = 0.59 mg/L, r = 0.98); for urine, RA-1000 = -6.92 + 1.05 .AA (S = 1.34 rng/L, r = 0.99). This convenient arrangement stablizes the alkaline reagent by eliminating the possibility of carbon dioxide being absorbed from the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide absorption not only reduces the pH of the reagent but also leads to formation of carbonate ion, both of which can affect the final absorbance measurement. The reagent is stable in the analyzer reagent boat for 24 h, and a working reagent prepared in bulk and stored appropriately is stable for at least 10 days.
